The Placement and Career Guidance Cell of Sri Krishna Degree College successfully organized an insightful Career Counselling Session on Higher Education Abroad on 18th March 2025 at the SKDC Auditorium, in association with Pedagogy Education Service. The session was led by Mr. Shine, a renowned Soft Skills Trainer, who provided students with valuable information on pursuing higher education opportunities across the globe. The event was attended by final-year students of B.Com, BBA, BCA, and M.Com, who showed great enthusiasm and curiosity throughout the session.
The session focused on guiding students through the various aspects of studying abroad — from understanding the benefits and challenges, to selecting the right country, securing scholarships, and navigating the application process. Mr. Shine elaborated on the advantages of studying abroad, such as gaining exposure to global education standards, enhanced career prospects, international networking opportunities, and personal growth through cultural exchange. He also discussed the challenges students might face, including financial constraints, cultural adaptation, and visa regulations, emphasizing the importance of preparation and adaptability.
Students were also introduced to the criteria for choosing the right country for higher studies, considering factors such as education quality, living costs, work permits, and employment prospects. Popular destinations discussed included the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, and New Zealand. The speaker further guided students on securing scholarships and financial aid, explaining different types such as merit-based, need-based, and government/university-specific programs, as well as education loans available through banks.
The session also detailed the application process, covering essential steps like researching and shortlisting universities, preparing academic transcripts and recommendation letters, writing a compelling Statement of Purpose (SOP), and meeting application deadlines. Additionally, Mr. Shine emphasized the importance of standardized tests such as IELTS, TOEFL, GRE, GMAT, SAT, and ACT, explaining their relevance for different levels of study and destinations.
Students were also briefed on part-time work opportunities available to international students, including on-campus jobs, internships, and freelance roles, along with the work-hour limitations in countries like the UK, Canada, and Australia.
The interactive session concluded with a Q&A round, where students clarified their queries related to financial planning, career prospects, and academic preparations. The event proved to be a highly informative and motivational experience, providing students with a clear roadmap for pursuing higher education abroad. The Placement and Career Guidance Cell expressed gratitude to Pedagogy Education Service, Mr. Shine, and all participants for contributing to the success of this impactful session, which empowered students to make confident and well-informed career decisions.
